How to Become a Street Artist

How to become a street artist

Have you always wanted to be a street artist? Have you decided now is the right time to follow your dreams, but are not sure of exactly what steps to take to get there?

If so, here are a few things you can do so that you too can become a successful street artist, and have exactly the career you always dreamed of having.

Decide where you would like to work -- In many cities, there are rules and regulations when it comes to being a street artist. That means you have to be registered, get a license and then are given a specific area of the city to set up in.

Find out if your city is like this. If it is no, you should be able to set up wherever you want as long as you are not stepping on any other street artist's toes.

Get licensed -- If you do need to be licensed in your city, make sure you figure out how to do it and then file all the paperwork needed so you can.

In most cities, you can find out this information at City Hall. Just check their website for details. Who knows, you may even be able to apply and get licensed online.

Decide what type of artwork you want to produce -- Street artists create just about any known artwork, and it is usually up to their artistic sensibility as to what they decide to create.

If you only usually produce one kind of artwork, then you already know what you will do as a street artist. If you do many more kinds, figure out which one is likely to be the most popular on the street and go in that direction. You can always switch later if your sales are not what you would like them to be.

This doesn't make them any less happy to enjoy a quiet afternoon, but it does mean that when it comes to the lively culture of the streets, they're more apt to enjoy a public graffiti display than a quiet art gallery. Street art has taken the world by storm in recent years as people turn city landscapes into walls of art to be enjoy by anyone passing by. You can't beat that kind of culture for a day out.

Street artists

Street artists often work impulsively but they can also be professionals who agree to do temporary displays for schools and businesses or even private residences. If you prefer a bit of street art with your day, you'll always find a good street artist to help you win over your audience. There are a host of reasons to hire a street artist rather than just a private painter. Street artists know exactly how to capture their audience with displays that are far more intriguing than just a general painting or business display. They take that impulsive and risky energy and turn it into something that delights their audiences.

How to find a street artist

Once you know you need a street artist for your business the question is how to hire one. In most cases, street artists are well-known in the areas they work and will be readily available just by asking someone familiar with them. If you live in a city landscape, you'll probably hear of a great street artist just by word of mouth. More successful ones will quietly advertise their services to people who know their work well.

Street artists are known as many things some good some bad but something that remains common is that they are becoming more and more common as time goes on. The reason that street art and street artist is becoming more and more common is because it is one way that artists can get their work seen by a lot of people and have their work appreciated by many.

Other reasons are not so noble but very understandable considering the ever rising prices of art supplies, and how competitive and expensive both schools and galleries have gotten making it hard for the average artist to get any work seen and out there. But also with rising prices all the way around and artists having a hard time finding steady work many times it makes it hard to be able to afford all of the supplies to make the art and thus much of the time it comes to the point where they can afford part of the supplies and thus can find the rest of what they need out in the world to use to make their art which is where a lot of the street art is born. Though not everybody likes it street art is slowly becoming more and more common and a true part of the culture as it is appreciated and even done completely intentionally regardless of money or other circumstances due to the profound interest and beauty that people see and get from the art itself.

So though there are many different types of art one that is becoming more and more prominent is street art and that is for many reasons some which are great and a sign of progression to many and others are not so great but are completely understandable in this world.

Evolution Of Graffiti

From vandalism to the pulse of the city

Street art was originally dubbed "graffiti" and it was considered more criminal than artistic. These "artists" used various paints and sprays to ensure that the walls of their cities were lined with visions straight from the mind of its most visionary residents. Unfortunately the police saw this as vandalism. Today, cities almost welcome these public statements that add personality and flavor to the city. Sometimes the images still offend but even law-abiding cities now see great use in wall murals and other forms of street art that can line the walls of a city during its most celebrated moments.

Hire artists to do your work

If you want to accent a particular part of your city and have public permission to do so, some of the greatest street artists in the world will be happy to clutter up your walls with their unique brand of art. Some of these artists have created famous and infamous images while others remain anonymous and quietly do their work for you. It's possible to commission them for their works of art and create your unique vision for whatever event you need. If you're working in a building that needs a bit of personality and you welcome this type of art, contact a street artist to adorn the sidewalks and walls of your street with the kind of art that lasts a lifetime. It's art that becomes a sort of home to those who live within the walls of the city you reside in.
